ST. PETER'S BASILICA - ROME

St. Peter's Basilica Church at the centre of Rome

Hey good people, it's been ages but I am here now. I took a vacation, much needed one and went to Italy with my boo. It's his country and it was lovely being there and having him show me around the place. We stayed in Milan but we took a day to go to Rome. That was my highlight. Don't get me wrong, Milan is the bomb… It's one of the world's top 2 fashion cities, it's freaking expensive but it's quite a site to behold - especially if it's your first time in Europe!

My photo of the magnificent church built approx. 400 years ago

I had to take a photo before getting in

As soon as the train got to Rome, I could tell the difference between the 2 cities. Rome is more touristic than Milan. I will post a few photos of Rome but this blog was about the church that took my breath away. The St. Peter's Basilica is right next to the Vatican City, where the pope lives. (God bless Pope Francis) It was quite late, no it wasn't - winter timing, the sun had set too quick.

Statues on the colonnades: The colonnades were so long, I couldn't help but wonder if Samson pushed such pillars if the architecture of their time was close to this, when Delilah betrayed him

I kept looking for Pope Alexander IV(Rodrigo Borgia) I wanted to see his sculpture and if was curved right to his liking. I wanted to go down on my knees to see if I touched the marble floors His Holiness would be/might be right below me. Unfortunately I didn't see his sculpture, there was a Mass going on and we couldn't go to the other side.

Michelangelo's sculpture (He lived between 1475 - 1564) and was considered the greatest living artist in his lifetime

The statues, the walls, the windows and the walls were all artistic masterpieces

There so many tourists like me, taking photos and being given a tour in the historical Church

I walked in this great place and I am humbled...

Is it silly that after buying about six rosaries and two 2014 calendars I still wanted to take the tour all over again? And whenever I get back to Italy, Rome will definitely be in my itinerary.

The swiss security, I am meant to understand that their protocol is close to holy...

May God Bless all those who died while in his service. Let God alone be the judge of all men. (This isn't a real body)

Bless you all,

Nekoye

  1. At the center of the ovato tondo stands an Egyptian obelisk of red granite, 25.5 metres tall, supported on bronze lions and surmounted by the Chigi arms in bronze, in all 41 metres to the cross on its top. The obelisk was originally erected at Heliopolis by an unknown pharaoh of the Fifth dynasty of Egypt (c. 2494 BC – 2345 BC). During its history of c. 4400 years (at the start of the 2010s), the obelisk has been successfully moved 3 times.
