STATES OF NEKOYE

One of my life changing moments... At the time, I had no idea!

Hello readers, I am back! I have been gone way too long. I am sorry. I’m saying to the 200 or so readers I have on this blog – and new ones – are there? Welcome aboard… It’s been a year since I last posted here but I should think that it’s probably been 2 years since I last wrote something that has moved my spirit. Here we are now, read along…

It wouldn’t be good manners to just dive in and start narrating my current issue of interest without explaining where I have been and what I’ve been up to. Where do I start?

Why am I back? I am back to share all the thoughts I can share and have dialogues with my readers – both offline and offline. Where have I been? I’ve been in school and working – in Marketing (Finally!) I mean it – finally… I craved to work in marketing ever since I was in high school. I’ve been pursuing a post-graduate master’s degree in public policy.

At Strathmore School of Business (SBS)

Yes, public policy. I bumped into it when I sort out to better myself by equipping myself with skills that would make me a much more valuable Human Resource. That was my plan then. At the time, I was working in a Media Production Company and I had worked with CNN on some of the CNN Africa programs. I was in management, mostly with field production assignments. Having not been academically trained as a journalist, I was content with being in management but wanted to soar higher.

I looked up to CNN’s Senior Vice President pf International Newsgathering TV & Digital – Deborah Rayner. I didn’t quite know how to get there. I had met Debbie in CNN’s London Bureau – Turner House on 16 Great Marlborough Street where she introduced me to the Chief International Corresponded and TV host extraordinaire Christiane Amanpour (World Stop!)

At the CNN London Studio

I came back to Kenya and met up with my good friend, a deputy managing director with one of the largest broadcasters at the time, who had also done his internship at CNN London advised that I take up a technology related course because that would be one of the ways forward. It was a valid advice and I took myself to Strathmore University where the script changed, once again… I was sure that I did not wish to get an MBA, anything else would do. Since my bachelor’s degree, I had received a marketing communication training as well as a project management diploma.

I ended up fighting for a spot in the Masters in Public Policy Class, re-wrote my CV and prepared hard for the entry examination. I have never looked back since then. I have gone through a journey of learning, yearning for information, learning how to communicate, becoming self aware and have developed analytical skills relevant for understanding public policy and its implementation.

My best caption is Change is inevitable and I have worked hard to ensure that I embrace it as it comes along. I have changed jobs and quite a few things which I am very pleased about. I am still changing. I can’t wait to share the next blog with you.

Last day of class 22 July 2017 - Carried my name tag, packed my bag and left.

Thank you for reading!

Sincerely,

Nekoye
