CURL FRIENDS
With Crystal(left) and Gloria at the event |
Hello readers, it’s been a minute but all bloggers will
understand the writer’s block thing that goes around… I got the pleasure of
attending an event posted on Facebook's group Tricia’s Natural’s dubbed; Curl-Friends and Conversations
at the Hilton Hotel yesterday. I am not sure what I was expecting but I knew
that we were gonna talk about hair, natural hair, black hair…Thank you Josephine, Prisca and Wachu. You did good!
Baby mama and I, side profiles and smiles. |
So my baby mama and I, Crystal headed to the Hilton an hour
late, I know, we know… Baby had to be left with milk for the couple of hours
that we would be away. So we made it to town. What would life be without a little drama? Hmmmm…. I wonder. So we had a
moment as soon as we stepped out of the car, some guy wanted to chat up and I
told him nicely that I did not know him and he should stay away but he tried to
keep talking and he was getting closer so I went off and started shouting at
him saying that I would scream and say things… Drama drama… How it follows thee
is still a mystery. Crystal and I walked beside cars right in the middle of the
road least the crazy stranger kept tagging along.
Friends for always. |
So we got to the Hilton and boy were naturalistas dressed up
or what? It was beautiful… The Ankara dress up theme was well adhered to. We
had arrived late so it only made sense for us to sit at the back… and get a
perfect view of everyone’s hair! Lol! We watched a clip of the transitions in
hair perception for women in Kenya. We had the curl-kit era, the relaxers era,
the weaves era, the human hair weave era (I think most women in Nairobi are
here) and then the natural hair revolution which is getting back: Women
embracing their natural hair, the afros and not looking cheap or short of money
but being real and loving what God has bestowed on them. Hey, I do weaves so I
am not saying weaves are not real…
Goofing around with Gloria and Crystal |
Anyways, we had a break and we got to mingle, have a glass
of wine for me, and milk for the nursing mama… Met up with a few girls we knew
and new curly girls. It was fun and the cameras got clicking! He he he… There
were a few vendors and I got myself a skin moisturizer and a face clay mask.
Haven’t tried them out yet but I say it was the event was well put together.

Any doubts I had on relaxing my hair are far gone now and
that is what I liked most about the event, The personal motivation along this
natural hair journey that I got. A big ‘thank you’ to the team and every woman
who attended the event. It was worth the time and effort.
Sincerely,
Nekoye
