GIRL FRIENDS (Part 1)
Hi readers, brace yourselves for plenty of quotes in this blog post.
I never really got to appreciate the value of friendships until when tragedy struck. I got to distinguish between the friends who truly care for me from the ones who didn't - the ones who only hang around during blissful moments. This is not a negative blog post but a positive one to help young women like me to gauge their friendships and to know which ones are worth keeping.
Sometimes letting some friendships go may be the best thing you could ever do to your conscience, time and resources. Other friendships are so precious that even when you are the one who has screwed things up, you would do anything to mend them. I can now say that I have been in both situations and clarity is what I will endeavour to seek. It's not worth the hustle if the other person uses a mistake as an excuse to push you away. "Whoever Says friendship is easy has obviously not had great friends" - Browny Polson. Truth talk right there.
The first shock I recall was a post from someone I considered a cordial friend. Seeing an unemotional, detached and estranged status update posted on Facebook with regards to the departure of my beloved Charlie was a wound I am sure would heal in time but not today. I will waste no time with such pretentious, single minded and pathological 'friends. It is definitely not worth the hustle o try and mend this friendship. Hence the action is to Unfollow, Unsubscribe, Unfriend, Block and Report that the person is annoying. Generation Y is amazing!!! "A real friend is one who walks in when others walk out" Walter Winchell
The second shocker was that media people are not your friends. Of course I have never kidded myself that some people were my friends, I just assumed that when you meet and have decent conversations over a press briefing or a corporate dinner cocktail and work together as colleagues in the same profession, that you would have some level of respect enough to keep away at one's loss and/or misfortune. But nay!!! Other people think that it is time to Copy and paste whatever the international media have written on their online press and republish it locally without even saying sorry to you for your misfortune. Kick such friends to the curb. #B!tchBooBye- The BScott Love Muffin Way to go.
