EU COMMISIONER IN KENYA

EU Commisioner Piebalgs at the press conference that evening

I almost missed this shoot! I half read an email and this was a huge lesson for me to learn. Details... I am always keen on them but lately I feel like I have check out of the God Darn game! I miss my sharpness. The day couldn’t have been more dramatic when the camera man and I were locked out of the meeting room and we failed to get the shot that we were hired to do by European Union Commission Office through the Associated Press. I am talking about a 2 second shot of our dear President Hon. Mwai Kibaki shaking the EU Commissioner Andris Piebalgs hand. Just that!
We missed it not because we weren’t there but because the president’s security told us that they would call us when he got there. And he did, but we were not called. Bummer… So the only press that got that handshake shot was the PPS (Presidential Press Service) There was no way I was going to call AP to tell them we have nothing! So I rushed to the PPS office and it was a whole official procedure of requesting for that footage. I will say that they were phenomenal. They emailed me the link with the footage but of course it was in a different format and all but at least we got it. A big thank you to the PPS team down at KBC especially the cameraman and editor. God bless. The hustles we go through in the course of our work.

Cheers,

Nekoye
