THE NEST: A RESCUE CHILDRENS HOME

Nick filming behind me while I play with a cute baby! Good practice because I'm now an aunt...

We are still filming the Feed My Starving Children Documentary. Today we went to The Nest Children’s Home down in Limuru. They actually have 2 homes. One home is for the small babies under 1 year old, and the other home for the older ones from 1-18 years old. Of course the younger ones in the second home have their own nursery. It is so heart-warming to see compassionate people take care of other people’s children. This children's home is one of its kind in Kenya. It’s a rescue center and specializes in children in conflict with the law. These are children whose parents have been imprisoned. When a judge in a court of law passes a sentence, everyone is so engrossed in the crime these people committed especially with the mothers that no one cares to find out whether they are nursing mothers or not. Their young children stay locked in their houses and in certain cases 7year old's are left to take care of 3 and even 1 month old babies.

The Nest Children’s Centre also rescues children from other children’s home. Like “Angel”- not her name, was rescued from another children’s home that was closed down due to mismanagement of funds and operating a children’s home for personal gains. Angel had been dumped at a pit latrine but good neighbors brought her to the Children’s center. The children’s center however neglected to give her proper medical attention and assumed that she would be blind from being in the pit latrine. However, when The Nest Children’s home took custody of baby Angel, she was given specialized medical treatment and can see images with one eye. She is scheduled to go for another surgery and my prayers are with her. There are children in ore desperate situation and all these things I see in the course of my work makes me appreciate life. The Nest Children’s Centre is also beneficiaries and partners of Feed My Starving Children Foundation that delivers Manna Pack Rice that is filled with nutrients (minerals, carrots, rice, and soya) all for free thanks to the Donors and Volunteers from Minnesota.

Reflective,

Nekoye
